Across South-East Asia, digital inequality continues to limit opportunities for millions of students. The pandemic exposed the region’s lack of digital infrastructure in education, with students in remote areas relying on mailed printed copies of learning materials due to the absence of computers and internet access. Without urgent intervention, these students risk being left behind in an increasingly digital world.
Recognising this challenge, we expanded our Digital Infrastructure Program into South-East Asia in 2022, beginning with Philippines. Since then, we have established 66 computer labs across Philippines, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste, providing 53,383 students and teachers with access to digital learning. Our formal digital skills training programs further equip educators with the knowledge to integrate digital tools into classrooms, ensuring long-term impact.
By installing fully equipped computer labs with refurbished devices and Niunet e-library, we are providing schools—many with no reliable internet access—with 6.3 million offline educational resources. Through sustainable technology solutions, we are closing the digital divide and empowering students across South-East Asia with the skills they need for the future.

Most schools in the least developed parts of the Philippines, such as rural Mindanao, do not have a digital classroom. In 2022, we launched our Digital Infrastructure Program here in partnership with Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the largest renewable energy provider in the country. Focusing on EDC's project-impacted areas first, we have since installed 41 digital classrooms in schools across the Kidapawan region of Mindanao and Bicol in Luzon island. For many students, this was their first time using a digital device.
In October 2023, we teamed up a new partnership with the Australian Foundation for Fostering Learning in the Philippines (AFFLIP) to drive digitalisation in Talomo, Davao. Together, we distributed 360 laptops across 15 schools in the Talomo District, delivering quality education to underprivileged students.
So far, our 56 computer labs in the Philippines have impacted the lives of 48,615 students, the majority from rural communities.

Learn about our project in Mindanao, where we installed 48 computer labs across three provinces, bringing digital education to thousands of students. This initiative was delivered in partnership with Energy Development Corporation (EDC).
"The schools were selected, first because they had Indigenous Peoples (IP) students. Here, the majority of students are from the Indigenous Tribe Obo Manobo." – Myrissa Lepiten-Tabao, CRD Head at EDC, Mt. Apo.
In 2024, we expanded our efforts to Cambodia, completing our first computer lab rollout in the country. In partnership with Cufa, we installed 225 laptops across ten schools. These new tools provide students with the opportunity to develop essential digital skills, empowering them to thrive in an increasingly connected world.
Some of the schools where we installed computer labs were once prison cells during the Khmer Rouge era, underscoring the profound transformation these spaces have undergone.
By providing access to technology, we are not only enhancing education but also laying the foundation for a brighter future in Cambodia.
In 2024, we installed our first-ever 10 digital classrooms in Cambodia, embedding quality digital access into significantly under-resourced rural schools.
We are pleased to see these laptops actively used alongside the accompanying Khmer e-library, transforming the learning experience for students.
In 2025, we are launching our first digital education initiative in Timor-Leste. Through our pilot program, we will deploy 200 laptops across 15 schools to support the Ministry of Education’s Digital Education Strategy, ensuring that students and teachers gain access to essential digital learning tools.
As we expand our presence in South-East Asia, this program will lay the foundation for long-term digital transformation in Timor-Leste, helping students develop the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
